Jeff Hine is the primary instructor for this program. Jeff enjoys teaching this course and believes in it. What he likes most about this training is it's not only relevant in the workplace, it's relevant at home, at the mall, at the grocery store, basically anywhere an active shooter incident could occur. This class can be tailored to a school for both staff/students, church staff/safety team members/parishioners, medical facility personnel, chemical plants, or any business location.
While Jeff does utilize a PowerPoint presentation during this course, this is not just a sit and listen to him speak for 2-3 hours kind of class. No "Death by PowerPoint here." The class is interactive. Participation by those attending is required, but is minimal and requires no heavy lifting at all. The training involves several scenarios and blank ammunition is utilized. Jeff feels it is very important that people know what a real gun sounds like in the next room or down the hall. Participants are required to act based on the particular scenario they encounter and on the options provided. All occupants of the training location and building security are notified prior to the commencement of the training and signs will also be posted to notify other occupants of the building. Jeff has received great reviews and people seem to not only learn, but they also have fun. His usual class size is anywhere from 10-60 participants, ages 12-75. He recommends no larger than 75 per class. The active shooter class usually lasts 2 1/2 hours, sometimes a bit longer if a lot of questions are asked.
For those deciding whether this training is worthwhile, Jeff suggests scheduling a meeting with an ARC representative or scheduling a small class, usually 6-12 attendees for a nominal fee. Before, during and after the class, he urges attendees to ask questions. Jeff is extremely confident that the training will sell itself, and that you will want additional training for all employees at ARC's normal rate. Those further trainings can and will be tailored to a specific location or a specific type of workplace, based on input from those attending the first class. For instance, how you respond to an active shooter in a school has a lot more options than a medical facility. You can also decide if you want not only active shooter training, but also Risk Assessments conducted with recommended solutions, Stop the Bleed training, Lockdown/Fire drill monitoring, etc.

This class lasts approximately one hour and is tailored for a specific age group. Recommended groupings are ages 3-9 (Pre-K thru 4th grade), 10-13 (5th thru 8th grade), and 14-18 (9th thru 12th grade). The class taught to ages 3 thru 9 (all classroom) is much different than the class taught to ages 14 thru 18 (a couple small, not scary scenarios along with the classroom portion). These classes have received great feedback from the students and parents. If this something your are interested in, a Parent Night prior to any of the student classes being held is strongly recommended. ARC personnel will give one of the actual student classes to the parents followed by a Q&A session. A Parent Night typically lasts about 90 minutes.
ARC personnel can monitor fire and lockdown drills conducted at your facilities, provide suggested drill scenarios, brief administrative personnel before and after the drills as well as observe staff behavior during the drills. A synopsis of what type of drill was conducted at what location and what was observed during the drills with recommendations will be provided shortly after. We are currently providing this service at sixteen (16) individual schools twice a year and have seen significant improvement.
We suggest all church staff, safety team members and parishioners receive the basic Active Shooter Preparedness course, but we also provide additional training for Safety Team members, armed and unarmed. We spend a small amount of time in the classroom talking about logistics involving communication between church staff and safety team members, post locations, etc., but most of the safety team training is scenario based at your church.
The first phase of any policy development or training program is to review the existing situation to determine the risk profile and devise a tailored solution set. The assessment provides a baseline from which a plan can be made to manage inherent risk. With the foundation set, the best training and policies can be implemented for clients to support and secure their success.
Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma. This class will train, equip and empower you to help others and even yourself in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. This presentation lasts approximately 2 hours. The first 45 minutes is in a lecture format, followed by smaller hands-on-group training with training aids (tourniquets/chest seals/wound cubes). Each small group will assigned their own insturctor.
